Southampton Airport Expansion

In 2020 Southampton International Airport published an ambitious 20 year masterplan, outlining proposals to double annual passenger numbers from 2 to 5 million. In April 2021 Eastleigh Borough Council approved the Airport’s planning application to extend the runway by 164 metres, enabling a much wider carrier and route network to access the airport, plus an additional 600 parking spaces and blast screen between the runway and railway. This decision is subject to judicial review, with timescales for final decision unclear. If finally approved, routes to Scandinavia, Hungary, Croatia, Poland and Germany are planned.

New Road & Rail Links

One of Navigator Quarter’s unique advantages is its unique access to multiple transport nodes, and plans are underway to improve these even further. Design studies are being undertaken to optimise the site layout and maximise the use of the unique railhead connection that the site benefits from.

Plans for improved road links into Navigator Quarter are also well advanced, including a potential road bridge linking Navigator Quarter directly to the M27.

R&D Development

Navigator Quarter will be an R&D hub building on existing local expertise in rail and aviation engineering and technology and logistics, and on Southampton Science Park expertise in the high-tech, bio and med tech sectors. With an emphasis on partnerships, linkages and synergies with existing businesses and among new occupiers, it will contribute significantly to the economic growth of the region and provide substantial opportunities for local talent at all levels.
